How Cariari Started
Cariari became its own district on July 2, 1971. This happened because of a special government rule. Before that, Cariari was part of a nearby place called Guápiles.
Exploring Cariari's Geography
Cariari covers about 201 square kilometers. That's a pretty big area! It sits about 50 meters above sea level. Most of Cariari's land is flat.
If you look down from an airplane, Cariari looks like a flat grassland. You can see lots of bright green banana trees. There are also many empty areas and countless rivers and small streams.
The main town of Cariari is a rural place that is growing fast. It's becoming more important for both business and farming. Cariari is about 23 kilometers north of Guápiles. It is also about 109 kilometers northeast of San José, which is the capital city of Costa Rica.
