Carl Fearns (born 28 May 1989) is an English rugby union player from Liverpool, England. He plays as a back-row forward, which means he is one of the players who helps win the ball and tackle opponents.

Early Career and Youth Teams

Carl Fearns started his professional rugby journey with Sale Sharks. He made his first appearance for Sale in a cup match during the 2008-2009 season. In that game, he played against Cardiff Blues and was named the Man of the Match because of his excellent performance.

Leading England's Youth Teams

Carl also showed his leadership skills early on. He was the captain for the England Under 18 team. Later, he joined the England Under 20 team. This team made it all the way to the final of the 2009 IRB Junior World Championship in 2009. His strong play in this tournament earned him a nomination for the IRB Junior Player of the Year award.

Overcoming Challenges

Before his big successes, Carl faced a tough challenge. He missed the entire 2007-2008 season because he needed surgery on his knee. But he worked hard to recover and return to the game.

Moving to New Clubs

Carl Fearns has played for several different rugby clubs throughout his career. Each move brought new experiences and challenges.

Playing for Bath

On 8 March 2011, it was announced that Carl had signed a two-year contract to play for Bath. He joined the team and continued to develop his skills as a back-row forward. During his time at Bath, there was an incident involving a teammate.

Adventures in France

After playing for Bath, Carl decided to move to France to continue his rugby career.

Joining Lyon

In 2015, Carl joined Lyon, a French rugby club. He quickly became an important player for them. In November 2016, he had a standout performance against Toulon, which earned him a spot on Sky Sports' Team of the Week.

Playing for Rouen

On 19 May 2020, Carl confirmed he would stay in France. He signed with Rouen, a team in the second-level French league called Pro D2, for the 2020-2021 season.

Return to England

In April 2021, Carl Fearns left Rouen and returned to England. He signed a two-year deal with Newcastle Falcons, a team in the top English rugby league, Premiership Rugby. He played for Newcastle Falcons until 2023.
