Carl Mathews (born February 19, 1903 – died May 3, 1959) was an American actor and stuntman. He was active in movies and TV shows from the 1930s to the 1950s. Sometimes, his name was spelled as Carl Matthews in film credits.

Carl Mathews was born in Oklahoma. His first movie role was in Rough Riding Ranger in 1935. Over his career, he appeared in more than 200 films and television shows. He worked as an actor, a stuntman, or sometimes both.

Early Life of Carl Mathews

Carl Mathews was born in 1903 on the Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma. His parents were Sam and Hattie Mathews. He grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Records show that he was 1/8 Cherokee. His father worked as a butcher.

Carl married his wife, Margaret, in the 1920s. They had a son named Carl Jr. in 1930. The family lived in Muskogee for a while. In the early 1930s, they moved to Los Angeles, California. This is when Carl Mathews started his career in movies.

Carl Mathews began his movie career in 1935. His first role was as Cinch Clemons in a western film called Rough Riding Ranger.

He acted in over 60 feature films. He also appeared in more than 150 other movies in smaller roles. Often, he played one of the bad guys' helpers in westerns.
