A Career in the Prussian Army

Joining Brandenburg's Forces

On August 1, 1687, Carl Philipp joined the army of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. Brandenburg was a powerful German state that later became Prussia. He started as a colonel, leading his own regiment of soldiers.

He quickly took on important roles. He became the Commandant of Wesel, a key military position. Later, on September 1, 1692, he was made the Governor of Minden. He fought against the French army again between 1691 and 1693 in the Low Countries.

Rise to Power and New Honors

On September 20, 1698, Carl Philipp became the governor of the Spandau Citadel, a strong fortress. His dedication and skill were recognized. On January 17, 1701, he was made a Knight in the Order of the Black Eagle. This was a very special award. Around the same time, Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I made him a Count. This meant he was part of the high nobility.
