Carl Webb (born 20 March 1981 – died 21 December 2023) was an Australian professional rugby league player. He played as a prop, second-row (prop or second-row) and lock (lock) during the 2000s and 2010s.
Webb played for three different teams in the NRL. These teams were the Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys, and Parramatta Eels. He also represented his state, Queensland, in the famous State of Origin series. Carl Webb even played for Australia at an international level. He was also part of the Indigenous All Stars team.

Carl Webb was born in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. He had both Indigenous Australian and New Zealand family roots.
Playing Rugby as a Teenager
Webb started playing rugby league at a young age. He played for the Dalby Diehards in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition. This was in the mid-1990s. When he was just 15 and 16 years old, he was already playing in Dalby's top-level team.
Before joining a big NRL club, Webb played for the Toowoomba Clydesdales. This team helped him get ready for professional rugby.

Playing for the Brisbane Broncos
Carl Webb made his first appearance in the NRL in the year 2000. He played for the Brisbane Broncos. His first game was against the North Queensland Cowboys.
The very next year, in 2001 Brisbane Broncos season, he made his debut in the State of Origin series. He played for Queensland and even scored a try! He was named the Broncos' Rookie of the Year in 2001. However, he sometimes struggled with his form and injuries. This meant he was not always in the main team. Because of this, he decided to move to the North Queensland Cowboys for the 2005 NRL season.
Time with the North Queensland Cowboys
Webb started the 2005 NRL season very strongly with the Cowboys. His great playing earned him a spot back in the Queensland Maroons team. Later that season, an injury slowed him down. In the final game of the regular season, he was suspended. This meant he could not play in the Cowboys' finals series. The Cowboys then lost the Grand Final to the Wests Tigers.
In 2006 State of Origin series, Webb was chosen to play at second-row forward for Game II. He scored another try for Queensland. In 2007, Webb again started the season well. But he broke his jaw early on. He returned to play in round 8 of the season.
In May 2008, Carl Webb played his first international game for the Australian national team. This match was against New Zealand. On 20 May 2008, Webb signed a new contract with the Cowboys. This contract kept him with the team until the end of the 2010 season. He was also named in the Australia training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. However, he was not chosen to play in the final team. After the season, he played for the Prime Minister's XIII team against Papua New Guinea. He also played for the Indigenous Australian team at the World Cup's opening night. This game was against the New Zealand Maori team.
Webb was chosen to play as a prop forward in the 2010 All Stars match. He played for the Indigenous All Stars team. On 31 August 2010, Webb signed a contract with the Parramatta Eels. He was set to play for them in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

For the 2011 All Stars match, Webb was again selected for the Indigenous All Stars team. He was on the interchange bench.
On 9 August 2011, Carl Webb announced he was retiring from the NRL. He had only played 6 games for the Eels before making this decision.

Boxing Career
Carl Webb had been training in boxing for many years. He made his professional boxing debut in January 2010. He fought against heavyweight Scott Lewis in Sydney. This fight was part of a bigger boxing event. Webb lost his first professional boxing match.
Health Challenges and Legacy
On 5 March 2020, it was announced that Carl Webb had been diagnosed with early-onset motor neurone disease (MND). This is a serious condition that affects the brain and nerves. In 2020, Webb started the Carl Webb Foundation. The goal of this foundation was to raise awareness and money for people living with MND.
Carl Webb passed away on 21 December 2023. He was 42 years old. He had battled motor neurone disease for four years.
