Carlile, California facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Carlile was a small place in Fresno County, California, that doesn't exist as a town anymore. It was located about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of a town called Riverdale.

What Was Carlile?

Carlile was once a small community or "settlement." This means it was a place where people lived and worked, but it never grew into a big city. Over time, people moved away, and it stopped being a recognized town. Places like Carlile are sometimes called "ghost towns" if they become completely empty.

Carlile's Post Office

For a short time, Carlile had its very own post office. This was important because it allowed people living there to send and receive letters and packages. The post office at Carlile was open from 1894 until 1905. After 1905, the mail service for the area moved to a nearby town called Caruthers. This often happened when smaller communities changed or people moved to larger towns.
