Carlisle is a small place in Otter Tail County, in the state of Minnesota. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it does not have its own separate local government, like a city or town. Instead, it is managed as part of the larger county area.
History
Carlisle was officially planned and laid out in 1879. This process is called "platting." It means that a map was drawn to show where streets, building lots, and public spaces would be. This helped organize the community as it grew.
A post office was opened in Carlisle in 1880. Post offices were very important back then. They were the main way people sent and received letters and packages. This helped connect the community with other places. The Carlisle post office served the area for many years before it closed in 1960.
