Carlo Cracco's Journey to Becoming a Top Chef
Early Life and Training
Carlo Cracco studied at the Pellegrino Artusi institute, which teaches about hospitality and cooking. After finishing his studies, he started working at a restaurant called "Da Remo" in Vicenza. In 1986, he began working with another famous chef, Gualtiero Marchesi, in Milan.
Later, Carlo worked at "La Meridiana," a resort in Savona. He then spent three years living in France. There, he learned a lot about French culinary arts, which means the art of cooking.
Returning to Italy and Earning Stars
After his time in France, Cracco came back to Italy. He became the chef at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence. This restaurant was very successful and earned two Michelin stars. Michelin stars are a special award for excellent restaurants.
Soon, Gualtiero Marchesi invited Cracco to work with him again. This time, they opened a new restaurant called "L'Albereta" in Lombardy. Cracco was the chef there for three years. After that, he opened his own restaurant in Piedmont called "Le Clivie," which quickly earned one Michelin star.
Cracco's Own Restaurants
A few years later, the Stoppani family, who owned the famous Peck marketplace in Milan, asked Cracco to open a new restaurant. This restaurant was first called "Cracco Peck." He still works there as the Executive Chef, which means he is in charge of all the cooking.
Since 2007, the restaurant has been known simply as "Cracco." In 2018, it moved to the amazing Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and is now called Cracco in Galleria.
The Italian food magazine Gambero Rosso gave Cracco's restaurant "three forks." This is their highest rating! In 2007, another newspaper, la Repubblica, said it was one of the 50 best restaurants in the world. In February 2014, Cracco also opened a bistro in Milan. It's called "Carlo e Camilla in segheria," which means 'Carlo and Camilla in the sawmill.' It got its name because it's located in an old, unused sawmill.
Carlo Cracco on Television
Carlo Cracco is also very famous for his television appearances. In 2011, he started hosting the popular show MasterChef Italia. He hosted it with other chefs like Bruno Barbieri and Joe Bastianich. Later, Antonino Cannavacciuolo joined them.
Cracco has also been the host of the first and second seasons of Hell's Kitchen Italia on the Sky Uno channel. In 2013, he even appeared at the Sanremo Music Festival, a big music event, to introduce a singer named Annalisa.
In 2019, he received the America Award from the Italy–USA Foundation. This award recognizes people who have helped improve relations between Italy and the United States.
