Carlos Crawford's Baseball Journey
Carlos Crawford started his journey in baseball when he was drafted. This means a team chose him to join their organization. The Cleveland Indians picked him in 1990.
Playing in the Minor Leagues
Carlos began his professional career in 1991. He played for the Burlington Indians, which was a "Rookie league" team. These are teams where new players start out. He continued playing for different minor league teams. These teams help players get better and hope to reach the Major Leagues.
Some of the teams Carlos played for include:
- Burlington Indians (1991)
- Carolina Mudcats (1998)
- Nashville Sounds (1998)
- Gulf Coast Pirates (1998)
His Big League Debut
Carlos Crawford made it to the Major Leagues on June 7, 1996. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies. This was a very exciting day for him! He was so excited that he didn't sleep the night before.
In his first game, Carlos allowed ten runs. Eight of these were "unearned runs." This means the runs happened because of errors by his team, not just his pitching. Since 1913, his eight unearned runs are the most in a player's first MLB game.
After this one game, Carlos continued to play in the minor leagues until 1998.
