Becoming Acting President
Carlos Freile Zaldumbide first became acting President from August 12, 1911, to September 1, 1911. This was a very short time, lasting only 21 days. He took on this important role during a difficult time for the country.
First Term as Acting President
He stepped in after the previous President, Eloy Alfaro, was no longer in power. President Alfaro had been in office for more than four years. After this change, Freile took over temporarily. He was then replaced by Emilio Estrada, who had already been chosen as the next President.
President Estrada's time in office was also short. He served for only three months before he passed away on December 21, 1911.
Second Term as Acting President
Because of President Estrada's death, Carlos Freile Zaldumbide became acting President again. This second term lasted from December 22, 1911, to March 6, 1912. Once again, he was leading the country during a time of change and uncertainty.
After his second temporary term, Francisco Andrade Marín took over as President. Carlos Freile Zaldumbide played a key role in helping Ecuador during these important moments in its history.
