Growing Up and High School Football

During his time in high school, he caught 18 interceptions. This means he grabbed the ball from the other team 18 times! His great skills earned him "All-State" honors from the Chicago Tribune. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in the entire state.

College Football Days

Carlos continued his football journey at the University of Iowa, playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes. In 1991, he showed his amazing defensive skills in the 1991 Holiday Bowl. He was even named Co-Defensive MVP of that game.

In the final seconds of the game, he intercepted a pass from Ty Detmer right at the goal line. This important play helped his team get a 13–13 tie with the BYU Cougars. In his senior year, 1992, Carlos was named to the First Team All-Big Ten. This showed he was one of the best players in his college conference.
