Carlos Mancheno Cajas (born October 9, 1902 – died October 11, 1996) was a leader in Ecuador. He briefly served as the President of Ecuador. His time in office lasted only ten days in 1947.
Becoming President
Carlos Mancheno took control of the government on August 23, 1947. He did this after leading a coup d'état. A coup d'état is when a group, often military, quickly takes power from the current government. This action removed President José María Velasco Ibarra from his position.
President Velasco Ibarra left the country after this event. However, he later returned to Ecuador. He even became president again in the future.
A Short Time in Office
Mancheno's time as president was very short. He was removed from power just ten days after he took over. This happened on September 2, 1947.
After Mancheno left office, Mariano Suárez Veintimilla became president. Suárez Veintimilla had been the vice-president under Velasco Ibarra.
Later Life
Carlos Mancheno Cajas lived a long life. He passed away on October 11, 1996. He was 94 years old at the time of his death. He died in Guayaquil, Ecuador, due to natural causes.
