Carlos Fernando Rosenkrantz was born on October 27, 1958. He is an Argentine lawyer and a very important judge. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Supreme Court of Argentina. This is the highest court in the country.

He was chosen for this role by former president Mauricio Macri. From 2018 to 2021, he was the president of the Supreme Court. Now, he serves as the vice president of the court.

Carlos Rosenkrantz was born in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. His father came from Poland and was Jewish. His mother was a teacher from the Corrientes Province.

His Studies and Career

Carlos Rosenkrantz studied law at the University of Buenos Aires. He then continued his studies in the United States. He received a special scholarship called a Fulbright Scholarship to help him study there.

He earned his law degree in 1983 from the University of Buenos Aires. Later, in 1987, he got a Master of Laws degree from Yale University in the United States. Two years after that, he earned his doctorate from the same university.

Before becoming a judge, he was the head, or rector, of the University of San Andrés. He held this position from June 2008 until December 2015.

His Work as a Lawyer

Before joining the Supreme Court, Carlos Rosenkrantz led a major law firm in Argentina. It was called Bouzat, Rosenkrantz & Asociados. A law firm is a group of lawyers who work together to help people and companies with legal issues.

His firm worked with many well-known clients. These included large companies like Cablevisión, Grupo Clarín, La Nación, La Rural S.A., and YPF. They also worked with government-related groups like the Yaciretá Binational Entity and the governments of the province of Santa Fe and the province of Corrientes.

Carlos Rosenkrantz has also written several books about law and related topics. Some of his books include:

  • In 1983, he was the top student at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, with a very high average grade of 9.42.
  • In 2016, he received the Konex Prize for the Humanities. This award recognizes important achievements in different fields in Argentina. He received it for his work in "Theory and Philosophy of Law" between 2006 and 2015.
