Carlos Villagrán Eslava was born on January 12, 1944. He is a Mexican actor and comedian. He used to be a journalist. Carlos Villagrán is most famous for playing the character Quico. Quico was a popular character in the TV show El Chavo del Ocho.

Life and Career Highlights

Carlos Villagrán started his career as a photographer. He worked for a newspaper in Mexico City called El Heraldo. This job helped him become friends with Rubén Aguirre. Rubén Aguirre was a writer and actor. He was going to play Professor Jirafales in a new TV show. This show was called El Chavo del Ocho.

Rubén Aguirre had a party. Carlos Villagrán impressed him there. He made his cheeks really big and funny. This funny face later became a special move for his character, Quico. Rubén Aguirre told Chespirito (Roberto Gómez Bolaños) about Carlos. Chespirito was the creator of El Chavo del Ocho.

Chespirito was also impressed by Carlos. He gave Carlos the role of Quico. Quico was the main character Chavo's friend and sometimes rival. Carlos also appeared in Chespirito's other popular show, El Chapulín Colorado. Both shows became very popular around the world. They were big hits in many countries. This made Carlos Villagrán very famous.

Carlos Villagrán left the shows in 1978. Around the same time, Ramón Valdés also left. These changes marked a new time for the shows. Even today, reruns of El Chavo del Ocho are still shown.

After El Chavo

After leaving El Chavo del Ocho, Carlos Villagrán went to Venezuela. He acted in several TV shows there. Some of these shows were El niño de papel and Kiko Botones. He also starred in Federrico and Las nuevas aventuras de Federrico. These shows were not as successful as Chespirito's shows.

Later, Carlos Villagrán and Ramón Valdés worked together again. They made a TV show in Mexico called ¡Ah qué Kiko!. This show was popular for about a year. But then Ramón Valdés passed away in 1988. After that, the show ended.

Like many actors from Chespirito's shows, Carlos Villagrán also performed in circuses. He toured with his own show, El circo de Kiko. He later moved to Argentina. There, he continued to play his famous character.

Later Years

On April 1, 2000, there was a special El Chavo del Ocho reunion. It honored Chespirito's career. Carlos Villagrán and Chespirito saw each other for the first time in 22 years. They seemed to make up their differences.

Carlos Villagrán appeared on a Venezuelan game show in 2004. He played Kiko in some games. He helped the men's team win. He returned to the show a year later.

When Chespirito passed away in 2014, Carlos Villagrán shared his sadness. He attended Chespirito's memorial. He also made up with Chespirito's family.

In 2017, Carlos Villagrán acted in a Brazilian movie. It was called Como se Tornar o Pior Aluno da Escola. He played the role of Ademar, the school director.

In late 2023, Villagrán returned to play Quico for a special message. This message was from the United States Embassy in Mexico.

Personal Life

Carlos Villagrán has six children. He has three sons and three daughters. In 2022, he shared that one of his daughters had recovered from a health challenge.

In 2013, Carlos Villagrán talked about getting older. He said he was thinking about retiring. He mentioned that he didn't want to compete with the younger Kiko on TV. He said he would miss his fans and their laughter.

In November 2023, it was shared that Carlos Villagrán was receiving medical care.
