Carmel Hamlet, often called simply Carmel, is a community in Putnam County, New York. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is a specific area recognized for counting its population.
In 2010, about 6,817 people lived here. By 2020, the population grew to 7,538. Carmel Hamlet is home to the historic County Court House, which was built in 1814. It also has the David D. Bruen County Office Building. The community is right next to Lake Gleneida. Near the lake, you can see a bronze statue that honors Sybil Ludington, a brave young woman from the American Revolutionary War.
