Get ready for a super fun adventure with Carmen Sandiego Word Detective! This exciting computer game came out in 1997. In the game, the sneaky villain Carmen Sandiego creates a crazy machine. It's called the Babble-On Machine, and it turns everyone's words into silly gibberish! You play as Agent 13, a brave detective. Your mission is to stop Carmen and rescue all the other agents she has captured. This game is a lot like another one called Carmen Sandiego Math Detective, which came out a year later.

Your Mission: Stop Carmen!

The Babble-On Machine

The game starts with Agent 12, named Ann Tickwitee, finding Carmen's secret hideout. She sneaks inside, following orders from ACME agent Chase Devineaux. But oh no! Agent 12 gets trapped and starts speaking gibberish! Carmen then appears and explains her evil plan. She has invented the "Babble-On Machine" to make everyone in the world unable to read or speak properly.

Becoming Agent 13

That's where you come in! You become Agent 13, and it's your job to save the day. Carmen has captured twelve other agents, and you need to free them all. To do this, you use a cool device called the CyberCom 2000. This device lets you travel to different hideouts where Carmen's helpers are hiding.

Solving Word Puzzles

At each hideout, you need to find secret passwords. You get these passwords by solving fun language puzzles. These puzzles test your vocabulary (knowing words), grammar (how words fit together), and spelling. There are different types of puzzles like Spellanyzer, Fusion Chamber, MicroPix, Code Breaker, and Power Pack.

Freeing the Agents

Once you find enough passwords, you can unlock a special container in one of the hideouts. Inside, you'll find a key! You take these keys to the "Tower of Babble" to free the captured agents. As you rescue each agent, they give you a small piece of a secret password. This password is for Carmen's Babble-On Machine itself!

The Final Showdown

After you free all twelve agents, you'll have all the pieces of the secret password. You put these pieces together to form a complete sentence. When you enter this sentence into the Babble-On Machine, it starts a self-destruct sequence! Carmen escapes as her building crumbles. Chase Devineaux finds her hat and knows she'll be back for another adventure!

Bonus Features

The game offers many cool features to help you learn. You can choose from three different difficulty levels, so it's always challenging. It also includes an electronic dictionary with 10,000 spelling words! You can even make your own spelling lists and learn 50 spelling rules. Plus, you can check your progress on screen to see how well you're doing.
