Who Was Carolina Uccelli?
Carolina Uccelli was born in Florence, a beautiful city in Italy. Her original last name was Pazzini. She started her career as a composer at a young age.
Her first big work was a sacred opera called Saul. It was performed for the first time on June 21, 1830, at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. Carolina Uccelli was very talented because she wrote both the music and the story (called the libretto) for this opera.
In 1832, another one of her operas, Anna di Resburgo, was performed in Naples. This opera was a melodrama with two acts. The story for this one was written by Gaetano Rossi. The next year, in 1833, the opening music (called the overture) from her opera Eufemio da Messina was played in Milan.
Life in Paris and Concert Tours
After her husband passed away in 1843, Carolina Uccelli moved to Paris, France. She went there with her daughter, Giulia. Both Carolina and Giulia were musicians. They traveled together and performed concerts in different countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Carolina Uccelli continued to live in Paris until she died in 1885.
