Caroline Maria Graham (born Montagu) was known as the Duchess of Montrose. She was born on August 10, 1770, and passed away on March 24, 1847. Caroline was the second wife of James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose. Her parents were George Montagu, 4th Duke of Manchester, and Elizabeth Dashwood.

Caroline married James Graham on July 24, 1790. Their wedding took place at Kensington Palace. James was 15 years older than Caroline. He had been married before, but his first wife's only child had passed away.

Family Life of the Duchess

Caroline and James had six children together. Their children were:

  • Lady Georgiana Charlotte Graham (died 1835), who married George William Finch and had children.
  • Lady Emily Graham (died 1900), who married Edward Thomas Foley. They did not have any children.
  • Lady Caroline Graham (died 1875), who never married.
  • Lady Lucy Graham (1793–1875), who married Edward Herbert, 2nd Earl of Powis and had children.
  • James Graham, 4th Duke of Montrose (1799–1874), who became the next Duke after his father.
  • Lord Montagu William Graham (1807–1878), who married Harriet Anne Bateman-Hanbury. They did not have any children.

James, the Duke, passed away in 1836. Caroline, the Duchess, died at the age of 76 in Petersham, Surrey.

Caroline, the Duchess of Montrose, has been shown in a movie. In the 2009 film The Young Victoria, an actress named Alice Glover played her.
