About Caroline Stevermer

Caroline Stevermer grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. She has one sister and two brothers. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a writer. She was only 8 years old when she decided this!

She went to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. There, she earned a degree in the history of art. Her first two books were published using the name C. J. Stevermer. Her first book published as Caroline Stevermer was The Serpent's Egg. Today, she still lives in Minnesota.

Book Series

Nicholas Coffin Mysteries

These were Caroline Stevermer's very first published books. They were released under the name C. J. Stevermer. These stories follow an English alchemist named Nicholas Coffin. He lives in Rome during the time of the powerful House of Borgia.

Cecelia and Kate Adventures

Caroline Stevermer wrote three books in this series with another author, Patricia C. Wrede. These stories are set in an alternate Regency England. In this world, magic is real!

The books are told through letters and diary entries. Cousins Kate and Cecelia share their adventures. They deal with magic and polite society in London and the countryside. The first book was written in a special way. The two authors exchanged letters as if they were Kate and Cecelia. They never discussed the plot beforehand!

  • Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot (1988)
  • The Grand Tour or The Purloined Coronation Regalia (2004)
  • The Mislaid Magician or Ten Years After (2006)
  • Magic Below Stairs (2010) was written by Caroline Stevermer alone. It takes place in the same magical world. This story follows a character named Frederick Lincoln when he was a child.

A College of Magics Series

This series is set in a magical world with imaginary kingdoms. It's sometimes called a "Ruritanian romance." The "College" in A College of Magics might be based on Caroline Stevermer's own experiences at Bryn Mawr College.

  • A Scholar of Magics (2004) – This is a story that continues the first book.
  • When the King Comes Home (2000) – This story takes place before the first two books.

Stand-Alone Novels
