Caroline Sunshine (born September 5, 1995) is an American who used to be an actress and now works helping politicians. She worked at the White House in 2018 when Donald Trump was president. As an actress, she is most famous for her role as Tinka Hessenheffer, a fun European exchange student, on the Disney Channel TV show Shake It Up. Caroline also appeared in the movie Marmaduke (2010) and the film The Outfield (2015).

Caroline's Early Life and Start
Caroline Sunshine was born on September 5, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents are Thom and Karen Sunshine. She grew up in Orange County, California. Caroline has two younger brothers, Johnny and Christopher.
She started learning ballet when she was just 3 years old. Her very first main role was playing Goldilocks in a play when she was in kindergarten. Later, she began acting with the Orange County Children's Theater. She also danced in competitions with the South Coast Performing Arts studio.

Acting on Stage and Screen

Caroline started acting in theater shows in 2004. She was in plays like Annie Warbucks and The Nutcracker. When she was 11, in 2006, Caroline began trying out for professional roles. She got her first job in a TV commercial for a talking doll called Amazing Allysen. She also appeared in commercials for Yoplait Go-Gurt and Cap'n Crunch.
In 2010, Caroline filmed a TV show pilot called Team Spitz for CBS. She played the teenage daughter of a high school coach. That same summer, she became well-known for her role as Barbara Winslow in her first movie, Marmaduke. This movie was based on the famous comic strip.
In the fall of 2010, Caroline got her most famous role. She became a co-star on the Disney Channel show Shake It Up. She played Tinka Hessenheffer, a European exchange student. Her twin brother, Gunther, was played by Kenton Duty. Many people thought Gunther and Tinka were inspired by Ryan and Sharpay Evans from Disney's High School Musical movies. Caroline was a recurring character in the first season. She became a main character for the second and third seasons. The show finished in November 2013. Caroline also sang on the Disney Channel Christmas album Holidays Unwrapped. Her version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was on the album.
In 2014, she filmed a pilot for a show called Recovery Road. In 2015, Caroline was in the TV movie Go Four Broke. She also appeared in the movie The Outfield that same year.
Helping Others and Activism
In February 2011, Caroline became the face of a perfume for teens called "Puppy Love 4 Girlz." This company helps homeless dogs and puppies. A part of the money from the perfume sales goes to animal shelters. In May 2011, Dream Magazine named Caroline one of their "Top 16 Under 16."
Caroline also helps many other good causes. She works with the "Joyful Sewing Organization," which makes blankets for people with cancer. She supports "Working Wardrobes," which helps women who need jobs or have been through difficult times. She also helps the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. This center teaches parenting classes to families.
Caroline is involved with the "Adopt A Hero" program. This program helps soldiers and their families. She also helps the "Loaves and Fishes Ministry," which feeds people who are homeless. Finally, she supports the "Thirst Project." This project works to bring clean drinking water to communities in developing countries.
Working in Politics
Caroline Sunshine started working in politics in January 2018. She was an intern at the White House during the Trump Administration. By March 2018, she got a full-time job there as a press assistant. Before this, Caroline had interned for Kevin McCarthy, who was a leader in the House of Representatives. She also interned for the College Republican National Committee and the California Republican Party.
In February 2023, Caroline became the press secretary and communications director for Eric Doden. He is a candidate running for governor of Indiana. In December 2023, she was hired as the press secretary for Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign for president. In June 2024, Donald Trump hired Caroline again. She became the Deputy Communications Director for his 2024 presidential campaign.
