Carora (also known as Carora City) is a city in Lara State, Venezuela. It is located on the Morere River, which flows into the Tocuyo River. Carora is about 54 miles southwest of Barquisimeto, another important city in Venezuela.

Carora's History: A City Founded Twice

Carora City has an interesting past because it was founded two times! The first time was in 1569 by a person named Juan de Trejo. However, the city had to be left empty because of many attacks from the local people.

Just three years later, in 1572, Juan de Salmanca founded Carora City again. During the colonial period, the city grew and became very successful. Its population reached almost 10,000 people.

What Carora Produces: Economy and Trade

For a long time, Carora's economy was mostly about raising animals. People raised horses, mules, and cattle. They also produced hides and leather from these animals.

In the past, Carora also exported rubber and other products from its forests. Today, raising cattle is still very important, especially for producing milk and milk products. In the 1990s, growing grapes and making wine also became a big part of Carora's economy.
