Carpenters Bayou is a waterway in southeastern Harris County, Texas, USA. It begins at the southern end of Sheldon Reservoir (29°51′N 95°10′W / 29.850°N 95.167°W / 29.850; -95.167). Who Was Carpenter?

The bayou is named after a man named David Carpenter. He was an important figure in early Texas history. David Carpenter was one of Stephen F. Austin's "Old Three Hundred" families. These families were the first American settlers allowed to move to Austin's Colony in what is now Texas.

David Carpenter's Life

David Carpenter was a partner of William Harris. On August 16, 1824, they received a large piece of land together. This land was located in present-day Harris County. It was right along Carpenters Bayou, near San Felipe de Austin.

Carpenter was a blacksmith, which means he made and repaired things out of metal. At the time he received his land, he was a single man. It is believed that David Carpenter might have passed away as early as 1828. That same year, another person named Noah Smithwick bought Carpenter's blacksmith tools in San Felipe.
