Carrick Felix (born August 17, 1990) is an American who used to play professional basketball. He played college basketball for three years at Arizona State. After that, the Cleveland Cavaliers picked him in the 2013 NBA draft. He was the 33rd player chosen overall.

High School Basketball Journey

Carrick Felix was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He played high school basketball at Millennium High School in Goodyear, Arizona. In his final year at Millennium, Felix helped his team win a state championship. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that championship game. During his senior year (2007–08), he averaged about 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

College Basketball Experience

Carrick Felix did not play during the 2008–09 season for health reasons. This is called "redshirting" in college sports. In the 2009–10 season, he played for the College of Southern Idaho. He averaged 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game there.

Playing for Arizona State

Felix then joined the Arizona State Sun Devils for his last three years of college. In his first year at Arizona State, he played in 30 games. He averaged 4.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in about 14.5 minutes per game.

His second season saw him play much more, averaging 32.9 minutes per game. He improved his game, scoring 10.5 points and grabbing 4.0 rebounds per game.

In his third and final year at Arizona State, Felix was a leader for his team. As a shooting guard, he led the team in rebounds with 8.1 per game. He was also second in scoring with 14.6 points per game. He had 13 "double-doubles," which means he got double digits in two stats (like points and rebounds) in one game. This was the most in the entire Pac-12 conference. He was recognized as a second-team All-Pac-12 player. He also made the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team for his strong defense. Felix was also honored as the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year. This showed he was great at both sports and academics.

Professional Basketball Career

The Cleveland Cavaliers picked Carrick Felix as the 33rd player in the 2013 NBA draft. He officially signed with the Cavaliers on August 20, 2013. During his first year, he also played for the Canton Charge. This team was part of the NBA Development League, which is now called the G-League. Players often go between the main NBA team and the G-League team.

Trades and Injuries

On July 22, 2014, Felix was traded to the Utah Jazz. This trade also involved a future draft pick and some money. The Jazz later released him on October 27, 2014.

After that, the Santa Cruz Warriors picked him in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft. However, he had to leave the team on December 4, 2014, because of a serious left knee injury. Doctors told him his basketball career might be over. He needed two surgeries and spent two years away from the game to recover.

Returning to the Court

On November 1, 2016, Felix joined the Long Island Nets, another team in the NBA Development League.

After playing in the preseason with the Washington Wizards, Felix signed with Melbourne United in Australia on December 22, 2017. He joined them as a temporary replacement for an injured player. He was later removed from the active roster when the other player returned. However, he stayed with the team and was part of their championship win in 2018.

In June 2018, Felix played for the Wizards again in the 2018 NBA Summer League.

Life After Basketball

During his two years away from basketball (2014-2016) while recovering from his injury, Carrick Felix created a mobile app. The app is called ZGNIT. It helps people who are on vacation book adventure equipment, like jet skis.
