Carrie Preston (born June 21, 1967) is an American actress, director, and producer. She is well-known for playing Arlene Fowler in the fantasy drama series True Blood. She is also famous for her role as Elsbeth Tascioni in the legal drama The Good Wife. Preston continued this role in the spin-off shows The Good Fight and Elsbeth.
For her work on The Good Wife, Preston won an important award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. She has also appeared in other TV shows like Person of Interest and Claws. Preston has acted in many movies too, such as My Best Friend's Wedding, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and The Holdovers.

Early Life and Education
Carrie Preston was born in Macon, Georgia. Her parents are Pam and Ray Preston. She also has a brother named John G. Preston, who is an actor.
Preston studied at the University of Evansville, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1990. After that, she went to the Juilliard School to study acting, graduating in 1994.
Career Highlights
Carrie Preston has worked on many projects with her husband, actor Michael Emerson. They got married in 1998. Emerson was a main actor in the TV show Lost. Preston appeared in one episode of Lost as Ben's mother, Emily. She and Emerson also worked together in the movies Straight-Jacket (2004) and Ready? OK! (2008). She also played Grace Hendricks in Person of Interest, who was the former fiancée of Emerson's character.
Preston is also a co-owner of a production company called Daisy 3 Pictures. She owns it with James Vasquez and Mark Holmes. For seven seasons, she played the character Arlene Fowler in the popular show True Blood.
One of Preston's most famous roles is Elsbeth Tascioni on the CBS show The Good Wife. Elsbeth is a unique and very smart lawyer. Fans really loved this character. Preston won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2013 for her performance. She was nominated for the same award again in 2015.
In 2015, Preston got a main role in the NBC comedy series Crowded. She starred alongside Patrick Warburton in this show. Later, she was cast in the drama-comedy series Claws. In Claws, she played Polly Marks, a character who had been to prison for identity theft.
Preston continued her role as Elsbeth Tascioni in The Good Wife spin-off show, The Good Fight, starting in 2016. In 2023, CBS announced a new spin-off series called Elsbeth. In this show, Preston plays the main character, Elsbeth Tascioni. The show started in February 2024 and has been renewed for a second season.
Preston has also appeared in many movies as a supporting actress. These include films like Doubt and Duplicity. In these movies, she acted alongside famous stars such as Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
