A Look Back in Time
This beautiful building was finished in 1934. It was designed by an architect named Pedro Adolfo de Castro. He used a style called Moorish Revival. This means it looks like old buildings from Spain that were influenced by Moorish art.
Even though its name means "House of Spain," it has never been a family home. Instead, it's a club for people who share a Spanish background.
The Casa de España is very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This list helps protect special places in the United States. It was also added to the Puerto Rico Register of Historic Sites and Zones in 2000. The building is not open to everyone, but private events can be held there.
Building Details
The building looks like a typical Moorish palace. It is about 119 feet (36 meters) wide and 158 feet (48 meters) long. Inside, there is a rectangular courtyard. This courtyard is about 51 feet (15.5 meters) wide and 85 feet (26 meters) long.
Outside the main entrance, there is a special fountain. Its design is a copy of a famous fountain. This original fountain is in the "Patio de los Leones" at La Alhambra. La Alhambra is a very old and famous palace in Granada, Spain.
On Screen
The inside courtyard of Casa de España has been used for filming. Two scenes for a Disney Channel movie were shot there. The movie was called "Princess Protection Program" and came out in 2008. These scenes showed coronations, which are ceremonies where someone becomes a king or queen.
