Casement Glacier is a long glacier, about 14 miles (23 km) (22.5 kilometers) in length. You can find it in the famous Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska, USA.

This glacier got its name in 1890 from a man named Harry Fielding Reid. He named it to honor R.L. Casement, who was a member of Reid's expedition. They traveled together on a ship called the SS George W. Elder. Back then, Casement Glacier was not fully separate. It was a northern branch of the much larger Muir Glacier.

Where is Casement Glacier Located?

Casement Glacier starts high up in the mountains. Its starting point is about 1,200 meters (nearly 4,000 feet) above sea level. This area is on the southern side of the Takhinsha Mountains. These mountains are part of the larger Alsek Ranges.

The glacier is next to another glacier called the Davidson Glacier. But they flow in different directions! While Casement Glacier flows mostly towards the south-southwest, Davidson Glacier flows east towards the Lynn Canal.

Casement Glacier is about 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles) wide on average. It flows downhill and ends at about 300 meters (984 feet) above sea level. The melted ice from the glacier forms a stream that is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) long. This stream flows into Adams Inlet, which is a bay on the eastern side of Muir Inlet.
