Cashion Community is a small city in Wichita County, Texas, United States. It is often just called Cashion. This community became an official city in the year 2000. In 2020, about 286 people lived there. Cashion Community is part of the larger Wichita Falls, Texas area.

Exploring Cashion: Location and Size
Cashion Community is located in the northeastern part of Wichita County, Texas. You can find it about eight miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas. It is just off State Highway 240. The city sits about 994 feet above sea level. The total area of Cashion is about 1.9 square miles (4.9 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
Cashion's Past: A Look at Its History
The area where Cashion Community now stands began to be settled around 1897. This was when a person named Hi Willis bought land there.
The Cashion School: A Community Hub
A one-room schoolhouse was built on land that was given to the community. This school was named after T.J. Cashion, who was a county commissioner. The school quickly became the most important place in the community. It was where people gathered and where children learned.
Oil Discovery and Growth
In 1918, something big happened: oil was found in the area! This discovery brought many new people to Cashion. In the 1920s, several smaller schools combined with Cashion School. These included the Cooper, Friberg, and Bacon schools. The Cashion campus grew, and it eventually became a high school where students could study for four years.
Changes Over Time: School Closure and City Status
Oil production started to slow down in the 1930s. Because of this, the high school in Cashion closed in 1936. Its furniture and supplies were sold off in 1945. After that, students from the Cashion area went to school in the bigger town of Burkburnett. Today, a special Texas Historical Marker stands in Cashion. It was put there in 1993 to honor the history of Cashion School.
On January 15, 2000, the people of Cashion voted to become an official city. The first election for mayor happened on May 6, 2000. Thomas J. Lowry, Sr. was chosen as the first mayor. Preston Giles became the first councilman, Dorothy Bradley was the first councilwoman, and Pat Giles served as the first city secretary.
