Cashtown is a small community in Franklin Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts as a separate place for population statistics.
Cashtown used to be part of a larger CDP called Cashtown-McKnightstown. But for the 2010 census, it became its own separate area. In 2020, about 453 people lived in Cashtown.
A post office has been open in Cashtown since 1833. People say the town got its name because a local tavern owner only accepted cash payments.
Where is Cashtown located?
Cashtown is found in western Adams County, Pennsylvania. It is west of the famous town of Gettysburg.
U.S. Route 30 is a major road that goes around the main part of Cashtown. This road forms the northern edge of the community. The original Lincoln Highway, which was one of America's first cross-country roads, is the main street in Cashtown. Another nearby town, McKnightstown, is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the east.
Who is a famous person from Cashtown?
- Nellie V. Mark (1857–1935) was born in Cashtown. She became a doctor and was also a "suffragist." A suffragist was someone who worked to get women the right to vote.
