Castaway Bay is a fun indoor water park resort. It has a cool tropical theme! This resort is owned by Cedar Fair. You can find it near Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Castaway Bay first opened its doors on November 5, 2004. Besides the water park, it also has hotel rooms, a big game room, places to eat, and shops.

History of Castaway Bay

Castaway Bay was not always a water park. It first opened in 1989 as the Radisson Harbor Inn. Cedar Point bought most of this hotel in 1996.

In 2003, Cedar Point announced plans to turn the hotel into an indoor water park. They officially named it Castaway Bay on November 13, 2003. About a year later, on November 5, 2004, Castaway Bay officially opened.

In 2015, the TGI Fridays restaurant inside the hotel closed. It was replaced by a new restaurant called Quaker Steak & Lube in May of that year.

Dining Options at Castaway Bay

Castaway Bay has several places where you can grab a bite to eat. There are five different dining spots to choose from.

  • Big Daddy's Snack Shack is right inside the water park, perfect for a quick snack.
  • Ebb & Eddy's offers more choices for meals.
  • Bay Harbor is another restaurant option.
  • Quaker Steak & Lube is a popular spot that replaced the old TGI Friday's.
  • Mango Mike's offers a tasty breakfast buffet to start your day.

Exciting Slides and Attractions

Castaway Bay is packed with fun water rides and play areas. Here are some of the main attractions you can enjoy:

  • Cargo Crossing
    • This is an interactive play area. You try to cross a pool of water using floating lily pads and a cargo net. It's a fun challenge!
    • Guests must be at least 46 inches tall or with a responsible adult. Lifejackets are needed for guests under 52 inches.
  • Castaway Bay Wave Pool
    • Get ready for waves in this huge 100,000-gallon wave pool. It makes waves up to 3 feet tall that you can body surf.
    • Guests under 48 inches and those who are not strong swimmers must wear a lifejacket. Kids under 42 inches also need an adult with them.
  • Creature Cove
    • This pool area has basketball hoops and lots of floating toys. It's a great place to splash around and play games.
    • Guests must be at least 46 inches tall or with a responsible adult. Lifejackets are needed for guests under 52 inches.
  • The Grotto
    • Relax in one of two large whirlpool spas. One is indoors, and one is outside.
    • Children under 16 years old must be with a responsible adult.
  • Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse
    • This is a huge, multi-story play area. It has over 100 different water features.
    • A giant 1,000-gallon bucket tips over every two minutes, drenching everyone below!
    • It also has four exciting slides: Mango Melee, Paradise Plunge, Pineapple Pipeline, and Tropical Twister.
    • To ride slides 8 feet or higher, you need to be at least 40 inches tall. For slides lower than 8 feet, you need to be between 36 and 48 inches tall.
  • Rendezvous Run
    • This is a unique water roller coaster! It's 35 feet high and 520 feet long.
    • Water jets push riders uphill. The slide twists inside and even goes outside the building in an enclosed tube before spiraling back in.
    • You must be at least 42 inches tall to ride this slide.
  • Toddler's Tide Pool
    • This play pool is designed just for younger kids.
    • It has a small slide, water pipes, sprayers, and fun sea creature play structures.
    • Guests must be less than 52 inches tall or with a child.
  • Tropical Tube Slides
    • These are three enclosed body slides that start indoors. They travel outside the building in tubes and then bring you back inside for a splashy finish.
    • You must be at least 46 inches tall to ride these slides.
