History of Castelar
The story of Castelar began a long time ago. The very first owner of the land was a man named Mateo Sanchez. He received a large piece of land in an area once known as Cañada de Ruiz. This was ordered by the governor, Juan Ramirez de Velasco.
Interestingly, this original piece of land was almost twice the size of Castelar today! In 1610, the land changed hands for the first time. Mateo Sanchez sold it to Captain Francisco Romero from Santa Cruz. The land stayed with Romero's family until 1673. That year, Sebastian de Gilles bought it, and over time, the large land was slowly divided into smaller parts.
