History of Castle Hill
The land around Castle Hill was once home to the Saklan people. They were a Native American tribe. A Saklan village was located near the mouth of Tice Creek. This village might have been used from the 1500s until 1772.
The Saklan people used bedrock mortars at this site. These were large holes in rocks used for grinding acorns and other foods. A small spring was also found there. The village's location near Las Trampas Creek was very helpful for the Saklans. Today, a small plaque marks this important historical spot. It is next to a bus stop at Tice Valley Boulevard and Montecillo Drive.
