Discovering Gold at Catcha Lake
Did you know that gold was once found right here at Catcha Lake? People started mining for gold in 1882. This was a very exciting time for the area.
Early Gold Mining Operations
Records from 1898 show how much gold was found. A report by E. Gilpin mentioned that a lot of rock, called ore, was crushed. About 20,734 tons of ore were processed. From this, miners recovered 22,757 ounces of gold. That much gold was worth a lot of money back then!
Modern Interest in Gold
Even today, people are interested in the gold at Catcha Lake. A company called Acadian Gold Corporation now controls a large area around the lake. They are planning to drill for samples in the future. This will help them learn more about the gold that might still be hidden there.
