Cathal Mac Coille (born 1952) is a well-known Irish broadcaster and journalist. He worked for many years on radio and TV. He was a main presenter of Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1, a popular radio show, from 1986 until he retired in 2017. Today, he still writes articles for Tuairisc.ie.
Cathal Mac Coille also presented other shows. These included This Week on radio and One to One on television. He also worked as a journalist for newspapers like Comhar and the Sunday Tribune. He was also a reporter for the Irish language TV channel, TG4.

Exploring Cathal Mac Coille's Career
Cathal Mac Coille started his career as an editor for Comhar, an Irish language magazine. He then studied History at University College Dublin. In 1974, he joined RTÉ, which is Ireland's public broadcaster. He first worked as a researcher for the news desk, called Nuacht RTÉ.
Early Broadcasting Roles
From 1978 to 1984, Cathal worked with the RTÉ team in Northern Ireland. After that, from 1984 to 1986, he presented This Week and other news shows. He also worked as a political correspondent for TG4. This meant he reported on political news. For five years starting in 1990, he was a journalist for the Sunday Tribune newspaper.
Presenting Morning Ireland
Cathal Mac Coille is most famous for presenting Morning Ireland. This show on RTÉ Radio 1 is the most listened-to radio programme in Ireland. It has been on air since 1984. Cathal joined the Morning Ireland team in 1986. He left for a short time in 1990 but returned in 2001. He continued to present the show until he retired in 2017.
In 1990, Cathal won a special award called a Jacob's Award. He received it for his excellent work as a presenter on Morning Ireland. He often interviewed important politicians like Gerry Adams. He even had a political breakfast with famous American broadcaster Larry King during a big election event in 2008.
