Cathal Mac Coille (born in 1952) is a well-known retired Irish journalist and broadcaster. He was famous for being a main presenter of Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1. This is one of Ireland's most popular radio shows. He worked there for many years until he retired in 2017. Since 2014, he has also written articles for Tuairisc.ie.
Cathal Mac Coille also presented other radio and TV shows. These included This Week and One to One. He also worked as a journalist for different newspapers and TV channels.

Cathal Mac Coille's Career Journey
Starting in Journalism
Cathal Mac Coille began his career as an editor. He worked for Comhar, an Irish language magazine. After that, he studied History at University College Dublin. In 1974, he joined RTÉ, which is Ireland's national broadcaster. He started as a researcher for the news desk.
Working with RTÉ and TG4
From 1978 to 1984, Cathal worked for RTÉ in Northern Ireland. He then presented This Week and other news shows. He also worked as a political reporter for TG4. This is an Irish language television channel. For five years, starting in 1990, he was a journalist for the Sunday Tribune newspaper.
Presenting Morning Ireland
Cathal Mac Coille is most famous for presenting Morning Ireland. This show on RTÉ Radio 1 is the most listened-to radio programme in Ireland. It has been on air since 1984. Cathal joined the show in 1986. He left in 1990 but came back in 2001. He continued to present it until he retired in 2017.
In 1990, Cathal won an award called the Jacob's Award. This was for his excellent work on Morning Ireland. He often interviewed important politicians. These included people like Gerry Adams. He even met famous American broadcaster Larry King.
