The Cathedral of The Most Holy Trinity, known in Spanish as Spanish: Catedral de la Santísima Trinidad, is often called "Templo Inglés." This means "English Temple." It is an Anglican church located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It serves as an important place of worship for the Anglican community.
A Look Back: The History of the English Temple
The first church building was constructed in the 1830s. It was built right on the seashore of Montevideo. A dedicated person named Samuel Fisher Lafone worked hard to make this first church possible.
Later, in the early 1900s, the city of Montevideo grew. A famous waterfront area called the Rambla of Montevideo was developed. Because of this new city development, the church needed to move. It was rebuilt in its current location, where it stands today.
Today, the Cathedral of The Most Holy Trinity is the main church, or "cathedral," for the Uruguayan part of the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone of America.
