Catherine Rebecca Gray (born 1766, died 1852) was an important writer and a lady from a noble family. She was known as Lady Manners and later Lady Huntingtower. She was born in Ireland and wrote many popular poems.
About Catherine Gray
Catherine Gray was born in 1766 in Lehena, a place in County Cork, Ireland. Her parents were Francis Gray and Elizabeth Ruddock. She grew up in the city of Cork.
In 1790, she married William Manners. He was a politician from the Tory party. This party believed in traditional ideas and supported the King. Catherine and William had a large family with six sons and six daughters.
Family Name Change
In 1821, the family decided to change their last name. They changed it from Manners to Tollemache. This name was sometimes spelled Talmash.
William Manners passed away in 1833. A few years later, in 1840, their son Lionel became the 8th Earl of Dysart. He inherited this important title from his grandmother. Because their father, William, would have become an Earl if he had lived, all of Lionel's brothers and sisters were given the special title and rank of children of an Earl.

Lady Manners was a talented poet. Her first book of poems was published in 1790. People at the time said her poems were very musical and showed pure feelings. They thought she was one of the best female poets of her time. Her poetry was very popular in the early 1800s.
