Cathryn Lee Damon (born September 11, 1930 – died May 4, 1987) was an American actress. She was famous for her roles in TV shows called sitcoms during the 1970s and 1980s. Many people knew her as Mary Campbell in the TV series Soap. For this role, she was nominated for a big award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series three times. She won the award in 1980.

Early Life
Cathryn Damon was born in Seattle, Washington. She grew up in Tacoma. She graduated from Stadium High School. When she was 16, she moved to New York City. She wanted to become a ballet dancer.
Acting Career
Cathryn Damon started her career as a ballerina. She danced at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. She also performed with the Metropolitan Opera's dance company.
Later, she acted in many plays. She appeared in Off-Broadway shows like The Boys From Syracuse. She also performed in several Broadway plays. These included Shinbone Alley and Flora, The Red Menace.
Damon became well-known on television. She played Mary Campbell on the TV show Soap. This show was a funny spoof of daytime soap operas. It aired from 1977 to 1981. She was the third actress chosen for the role. The show's producer, Tony Thomas, said she was "brilliant."
After Soap, she worked with her co-star Eugene Roche again. They appeared on the TV show Webster from 1984 to 1986. They played Cassie and Bill Parker, who were Webster's landlords. Cathryn Damon also had guest roles on other popular TV shows. These included The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Murder, She Wrote.
In 1980, Cathryn Damon won an Emmy Award for her role in Soap. Her TV husband, Richard Mulligan, also won an Emmy. However, Damon could not accept her award in person. This was because of an actors' strike at the time. Years later, Richard Mulligan mentioned her when he won another Emmy. He called her "Toots."

In August 1953, Cathryn Damon married Richard Price Towers. He was an actor and singer. They were married in New York City.
Later Years and Passing
In 1986, Cathryn Damon was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She continued acting in small roles. She passed away a year later, on May 4, 1987. She was 56 years old. She died in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Her last movie role was in She's Having a Baby. She played Elizabeth McGovern's mother in the film. This movie was released after her passing. She is buried in Acacia Memorial Park near Seattle.
