About Caucasia
Caucasia was officially established on April 12, 1886. Its founder was Clemente Viloria Arrieta. People often call Caucasia the "Capital of Bajo Cauca." It is also known as the "Pantry of Antioquia" for its livestock and mining activities.
Geography and Landscape
Caucasia is in the northern part of the Antioquia department. It sits right on the border with the Córdoba department. The town is about 150 meters (490 feet) above sea level.
The area around Caucasia is mostly flat. There are some small hills in the north, west, and south. It is a large municipality because of its great location. It is close to where important rivers meet, like the Cauca and Nechí rivers. It is also near the Paramillo National Park.
The rural parts of Caucasia are in the Andean area. Here, the land rises from 50 to 500 meters (164 to 1,640 feet). This area is where the Paisa Region and the savannah regions of Colombia meet. This mix has created a unique local culture called the Chilapa culture. The highest point in the municipality is the Olvido mountain, which is 502 meters (1,647 feet) high. It is located in a place called Puerto Colombia.
Climate and Weather
Caucasia has two main types of climate. One is a warm tropical climate. The other is a warm mountainous wet climate. This is because the town is located at the foot of the Andes mountains.
The temperature in Caucasia is affected by winds and rainfall. The average temperature in the town is about 27.4 °C (81.3 °F). Temperatures in the urban area usually range from 25 to 32 °C (77 to 89.6 °F). The hottest temperatures can reach 35 °C (95 °F). The cooler temperatures are around 23 °C (73.4 °F), with the lowest being about 21 °C (69.8 °F).
The beginning and end of the year are usually dry seasons. However, the weather can change, and it gets wet at certain times, especially from August to November. The average yearly rainfall is about 2,500 mm (98 inches). It rains more in the southern parts of the municipality than in the north.
