Ceanothus cyaneus is a type of flowering shrub. It is also known as the San Diego buckbrush or Lakeside ceanothus. This plant grows in the Peninsular Ranges and Transverse Ranges. You can find it in San Diego County, California. It might also grow a little bit into Baja California.
What Does San Diego Buckbrush Look Like?
This plant is a tall, upright shrub. It can grow up to 5 meters (about 16 feet) tall. Its branches spread out and are usually gray-green. The younger twigs are a light greenish-brown color.
The leaves of this plant stay green all year round. They can have jagged edges, like a saw, with small bumps. Other leaves might have smooth edges. The bottom side of the leaves is a lighter green than the top side.
Flowers and Fruits
The flowers grow in long clusters called an inflorescence. These clusters can be longer than 15 centimeters (about 6 inches). They have many bunches of flowers along a greenish stem. The flowers are a bright blue color. They have yellow parts sticking out called anthers. These are part of the plant's reproductive system.
After the flowers, small fruits grow. These fruits are like tiny capsules. They are about 4 millimeters long.
