Cecil R. Benjamin is an American leader who has worked a lot in politics. He was the main leader, or "Chair," of the Democratic Party in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is a group that helps choose leaders and make decisions for the government.
What Cecil Benjamin Does
Cecil Benjamin has had many important jobs. He used to be a teacher. He also led a group for teachers called the St. Croix Federation of Teachers. Later, he became a national leader for the American Federation of Teachers.
Benjamin also worked for the government in the Virgin Islands. He was the commissioner for the Department of Labor. This department helps people find jobs and makes sure workplaces are fair.
Representing the Virgin Islands
In 2016, Benjamin was a special representative from the U.S. Virgin Islands. He went to a big meeting called the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At this meeting, he supported Hillary Clinton to become president.
Benjamin also served as the main leader of the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands. In 2020, he represented the U.S. Virgin Islands again. He officially nominated Joe Biden to be the party's choice for president. In a video message, Benjamin spoke about the Virgin Islands. He said it was a beautiful place with friendly people. He also mentioned that the Virgin Islands hoped to get full voting rights in the U.S. Congress. They also wished to vote for president in the future.
