Cecily Brennan (born in 1955) is an Irish artist. She started her career as a painter. Later, she also began creating sculptures. In the 1990s, she led a special group called the Visual Arts Committee. This committee worked with the Irish government's Department of Foreign Affairs. Cecily Brennan is also known for her video "Black Tears" (2010). This video showed an Irish actress expressing sadness. It was shown in art galleries in Cork and Dublin.

Cecily Brennan was born in 1955 in a town called Athenry in western Ireland. She went to the National College of Art and Design. She finished her studies there in 1978.

Artistic Career

Cecily Brennan first worked as a painter. Her paintings were shown in many art shows during the 1980s and 1990s. She had her own shows at places like the Project Arts Centre and the Taylor Galleries in Dublin. Her art was also displayed at the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork and the Limerick City Gallery. She also took part in group art shows with other artists. These shows happened in countries like France, Belgium, the United States, and Finland.

In the early 2000s, Cecily Brennan started making sculptures. Most of these sculptures were made from shiny stainless steel. Some of her sculptures were shown at the Taylor Galleries in 2001. This special show was called "Bandaged Heart."

Leadership Roles

In 1979, Cecily Brennan helped start the Visual Arts Centre in Dublin. She was one of its first members. From 1983 to 1986, she was the director of the Project Art Centre. This meant she was in charge of running the center. Later, from 1993 to 1997, she led the Visual Arts Committee.
