A Look Back: How it Started

Taylor Galleries first opened in July 1978. It was started by a man named John Taylor. He had worked at another gallery called the Dawson Gallery since 1964.

When the Dawson Gallery closed in 1978, John Taylor decided to open his own. He opened Taylor Galleries in the same year. It was first located on Dawson Street in Dublin.

In 1990, the gallery moved to a smaller place. This new spot was on Kildare Street. An architect named Ross Cahill O'Brien designed the new space. Then, in 1996, the gallery moved again. It went to its current home at 16 Kildare Street. Today, John Taylor runs the gallery with his brother, Patrick Taylor.

Artists and Their Work

Taylor Galleries also looks after the art of some artists who are no longer alive. These are artists who worked with the gallery for a long time. Some of these artists include Charles Brady, William Crozier, and Louis le Brocquy.

Showing New Artists: The LACUNA Project

In 2013, the gallery started a new project called LACUNA. This project helps new artists show their work. It also helps artists who are in the middle of their careers. These are artists who might not have a gallery in Dublin yet.

The LACUNA shows happen sometimes. They are put together by Sabina Mac Mahon and artist David Quinn. This project runs alongside the gallery's main shows. It helps show new and different kinds of art.
