Cedar Creek Mine Ride at RCDB |
The Cedar Creek Mine Ride is an exciting mine train roller coaster located at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. It was built by a company called Arrow Development and first opened way back in 1969. You can find it in the Frontiertown area of the park. This ride is super old, being the second oldest roller coaster at Cedar Point! Only the Blue Streak is older. What makes the Cedar Creek Mine Ride special is that it has two separate hills that pull you up, called lift hills. The only other coaster at Cedar Point with two lift hills is Iron Dragon.
History of the Mine Ride
After the huge success of the Matterhorn Bobsleds ride at Disneyland in 1959, a company called Arrow Development became very popular. They had created a new type of roller coaster track made of steel tubes, and everyone wanted one! Arrow Development then came up with a cool idea for a "runaway mine train" roller coaster. Many of their first roller coasters used this design.
The Cedar Creek Mine Ride at Cedar Point was one of these early mine train rides. It opened in 1969 and was a main attraction in the new Frontiertown section of the park. It's the second-oldest roller coaster at Cedar Point. Can you believe it has given over 62 million rides since it first opened? That's a lot of happy riders!
In 2019, the Cedar Creek Mine Ride celebrated its 50th birthday! To mark this special occasion, the ride got some cool updates. These included new music in the station where you get on and off. They also added special effects in the first tunnel and some fun mine-themed decorations in the line area.
What's the Ride Like?
The Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a roller coaster that takes you up two different hills. It has lots of quick dips and turns. The ride winds through a lightly wooded area and even goes over a lagoon!
Your adventure begins when your train enters a building that looks like a mine. This is where the trains are stored and moved around. Then, you start climbing the first lift hill. Once you reach the top, you'll have a very short drop. After that, you'll go through several turns high above the ground.
Next, there's a bigger drop that takes you soaring over a lagoon. After crossing the water, your train will spin around in a big circle, which is called a helix. Then, it's time to go up the second lift hill!
After the second hill, you'll experience another short dip. You'll also go through more turns that are raised off the ground. The ride finishes with a double helix, where you spin around twice. Finally, your train pulls back into the station.
