Cedar Falls is a small place in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a town or city.

The community is located right next to the Deep River. It's about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) northeast of a larger town called Asheboro. Cedar Falls even has its own post office with the ZIP code 27230. This post office first opened a long time ago, on March 4, 1878.

Discovering Cedar Falls' Past

Cedar Falls has an interesting history. It wasn't always called Cedar Falls. Its first name was Everett's Mill. This name came from a person named Benjamin Everett.

Early Industry: The First Cotton Mill

A very important event happened in Cedar Falls in 1836. This was when the first cotton mill in all of Randolph County was built here. It was called Sapona Cotton Mills. Cotton mills were factories that turned raw cotton into thread and fabric. This was a big deal for the area's economy back then.

Becoming a Town (Briefly!)

Later, in 1899, Cedar Falls officially became an incorporated town. This meant it had its own local government and rules. However, this didn't last very long. Just two years later, in 1901, its status as an incorporated town was taken away. Since then, it has remained an unincorporated community.

Where is Cedar Falls?

Cedar Falls is located in the central part of Randolph County. As mentioned before, a key feature of its location is the Deep River. The community sits right along the banks of this river. This river would have been important for early industries like the cotton mill, providing water power.
