History of Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake started as a small, natural lake fed by springs. Long ago, people used the lake as an ice factory. They would cut and sell the frozen ice during winter. To get more ice, a dam was built, which made the lake bigger.
From Ice Factory to Summer Resort
In 1906, the lake was known by other names like Cranberry Lake or Silver Lake. A company called Cedar Lake Park, Inc. bought it. They wanted to turn it into a fun summer resort. They built cabins, lodges, and camps for visitors. Many rich people from New York came to vacation here on weekends. Even famous baseball player Babe Ruth stayed at a house on the lake's west side!
Becoming a Community
Cedar Lake Park, Inc. eventually changed ownership in 1924. The Cedar Lake Property Owners (CLPO) group was formed and took over the lake and its land. As roads and transportation improved, more houses were built around the lake. Today, over 300 families live in the Cedar Lake Community, making it a lively place all year round.
