In 1895, the name of the post office was changed slightly to "Cedarvalley." However, it eventually closed its doors in 1903.

The community of Cedar Valley got its name from a nearby natural feature. It was named for the valley of a small stream called Cedar Run creek.

One notable person who was born in Cedar Valley is David S. Stanley. He was born here in 1828. David S. Stanley became a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. This was a very important war in American history.
