Leavenworthia stylosa is a special kind of flowering plant. It belongs to the mustard family. People often call it cedar gladecress or long-styled gladecress. This plant is quite rare because it only grows in one specific area.
About Cedar Gladecress
This unique plant is found only in the Central Basin of Tennessee. This area is near the city of Nashville. It likes to grow in places called cedar glades. Cedar glades are open, rocky areas where Eastern Redcedar trees grow. You might also spot it in ditches or low-lying fields.
What Cedar Gladecress Looks Like
Leavenworthia stylosa flowers are usually about 1 inch wide. They can be white or yellow. All the flowers have a bright yellow center. A cool thing about their petals is that their tips look like they have a small notch or dip.
When Cedar Gladecress Blooms
You can usually see these pretty flowers from March to May. This is springtime in Tennessee. The color of the flowers can depend on where they grow. Yellow flowers are more common north of Nashville. White flowers are more often found south of Nashville.
