Cedric Noel (born August 21, 1992) is a talented musician, singer, and songwriter who lives in Canada. He plays many instruments and has lived in different countries. People describe his music in many ways, like "indie-rock," "soul," or "gentle folk." Cedric likes to mix different music styles. Cedric's Journey in Music
Early Life and Influences
Cedric Noel was adopted by parents from India, Mozambique, and Belgium. He has lived on almost every continent! Because of this, his music is inspired by many different cultures and sounds.
Cedric went to St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. There, he studied journalism. From 2010 to 2013, he wrote for the student newspaper, The Aquinian. His articles often talked about the music and art scene in Fredericton.
Forming Bands and Solo Work
In October 2011, Cedric started a band called Redwood Fields. He played with Brendan Magee and Bruce Duval. Later, Heather Ogilvie joined them as a bassist.
Redwood Fields released their first full album, Accidentals, in July 2013. This album was nominated for "Pop Recording of the Year" at the 2013 Music NB Awards. The song "Accidentals" was also nominated for "SOCAN Song of the Year."
After Redwood Fields broke up in 2014, Cedric started a new band called Sentimentals. He worked with Will Pacey and Cam "Terminal" Corey. Cedric also began to record and release his own music. He worked with many local musicians and released several songs. Because of his hard work, Grid City Magazine named him their "Artist of the Year" in 2015. In the fall of 2016, Cedric moved from Fredericton to Montreal.
Recent Music and Collaborations
Cedric has always been a singer and loves working with other musicians. In 2020, he released two new solo albums: Patterning and Nothing Forever, Everything.
In 2021, Cedric joined two record labels: Joyful Noise Recordings in the US and Forward Music Group in Canada. He then released his album Hang Time. This album was praised by music critics, including Stereogum. Liam O'neill from the band Suuns played drums on seven songs on the album. A writer named Nikolas Sokai said that much of the album is about "friendship and allyship." This means it explores ideas of being a good friend and supporting others.
