Celt is a small, unincorporated community located in the northeastern part of Dallas County, Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
You can find Celt along Missouri Route E. It sits on the north side of Mill Creek. This creek is just over a mile west of where it joins the Niangua River. Celt is about 19 miles (30 kilometers) northeast of a larger town called Buffalo.
History of Celt
The name "Celt" was given to this community by the United States Postal Service. They set up a post office here in 1888.
Celt is also known by another name: "Mill Creek." This is because there used to be four water mills in the area. These mills used the power of the creek to grind grain or saw wood.
The post office in Celt eventually closed down in 1968. In the early 1940s, there was a school in the community called Celt School, but it is no longer in use.
Celt is considered part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's included in the larger economic and social region around the city of Springfield.
