Central City, also known as Eta, is a small, unincorporated community located in Coffee County, Alabama, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
Central City is easy to find because it's right along Alabama State Route 27. It's about 5.2 miles (or 8.4 kilometers) south-southwest of a larger town called Enterprise.
History of Central City
The name Central City probably comes from its location, suggesting it was once seen as a central spot in the area. It's common for places to be named after their geography or what they are known for.
For a short time, this community had a different name: Eta. There was even a post office here that used the name Eta. This post office was open from 1894 to 1903. A post office was very important back then because it was how people sent and received letters, and it often served as a gathering place for the community.
