The Central Pacific Railroad Depot in Lovelock, Nevada is an old train station. It was built in 1880. This building was once the main way people got into Lovelock. It was very important for the town in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The station was first located at West Broadway Avenue and Main Street. But in 1999, the town moved it. Now, it sits across Broadway Avenue from its original spot.

What Does the Station Look Like?

The building is made of wood. It has two main parts. The south part is one and a half stories tall. This section was used as the baggage room. The north part is two stories tall. This is where passengers waited for trains. It also had the agent's office and living space.

The station has many decorative details. These include fancy wooden shapes called finials and brackets. It also has flat board trim. The depot was built using a special design. It was called "Combination Depot #2" by the Central Pacific Railroad. This is the only one of its kind left in Nevada. Only six were ever built by the Central Pacific system. The other five are no longer standing.

A Busy Stop for Trains

The Lovelock station was a regular stop for trains traveling across the country. It was made bigger in 1917 to handle more passengers. The famous California Zephyr train, run by Amtrak, stopped here. It continued to stop at the station until May 11, 1997.

Saving the Historic Building

In 1998, the Union Pacific Railroad owned the station. They planned to tear it down. But the City of Lovelock wanted to save the building. The railroad then gave the building to the city. They also gave $42,500 to help. This money was meant to cover the cost of tearing it down.

The town moved the depot off the railroad's land. They finished restoring it in 2000. In 2004, the station was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a very important historic site. Today, the depot is rented out to different shops.
